Free high resolution shaded relief (3D) topographic maps covering the whole of New Zealand with all the essential details and features normally found only in printed maps. Each map sheet has equivalent area coverage as the corresponding Land Information New Zealand (LINZ) paper map.
Free elevation profiles for all walking tracks in New Zealand.
Comprehensive track statistics which describe the characteristics of each track and its relative level of difficulty.
Free navigation aids for each track in each map, in the form of GPS files which can be pre-loaded on a compatible GPS receiver for easy route finding (for experienced users only), and KML files that allow you to instantly locate a track in Google Earth without having to search for it.

November 2011

A new build of the maps has been completed and can be freely downloaded now. It includes a large number of improvements:

Significantly improved treatment of all labels and feature names which now also include street names.
Much improved and more consistent colouring of topo features.
Maps now have even higher resolution than before, approx. 20% more.
One legend for all maps, download it only once and use it with all maps.
Maps and tracks are now better packaged, one file for the map and one zip file for all other files including profiles,GPX and KLM files.
