Downloads

The main islands of New Zealand (incl. Stewart Island) have been subdivided into some 400 maps, each map covering the same area (24x36 Km) as the equivalent LINZ paper map. All the downloads for each map are contained in:

• a map image file
• and, for maps which have tracks, a zip file with track profiles, GPX and KML files

which can be downloaded individually.

To Download

1. Select the area

To find the map number you wish to download you have three options:

• if you know the name of a location, enter the name (case insensitive) in the search box then press the Search button to obtain a list of map number(s) meeting the search criteria. You can use 'and', 'or' to limit the search, * to widen it. Use double quotes for an exact match.
  (E.g. "Adelaide tarn hut" will result in one match only, while adelaide tarn, adelaide or tarn, will both return all maps containing either adelaide or tarn. Adelai* will return all maps containing a name starting with adelai.
  
  

   Enter the Map number you selected from the results table in the
  Download Form below then press the "Validate" button. If the map is available, a download button will appear.
  

• or click on one of the two map images below, near the area of interest, to open a larger map into which you can zoom and identify from it the map number you require, then enter the number you selected in the Download Form below and press the "Validate" button. If the map is available, a new table will appear with a 'Download now' button to press.
• You can also download the zip file below to obtain an ordered list of all the place names (mountains, lakes, rivers, huts, etc..) and track names in NZ, and the map number in which they are found. (the file is also automatically added to each map download, as well as the map legend.)
